AEROVIAS NACIONALES DE COLOMBIA S.A.. Avianca is the first commercial airline founded in the Américas and second in the world. Its creation took place thanks to the talent and adventurous spirit of the Germans Werner Kaemerer, Stuart Hosie, Alberto Tietjen and the Colombians Ernesto Cortizzos (the first President of the airline), Rafael Palace, Cristóbal Restrepo, Jacobo Correa and Aristides Noguera. These visionaries and soñadores founded in December 5 1919 in the city of Barranquilla (Colombia) the Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo (Colombo-German Society of Aerial Transport) - SCADTA. The company made the first flight from Barranquilla to the near population of Colombia Port, on a Junker F-13 in which 57 letters were transported. The flight was under the control of German Pilot Helmuth Von Krohn.
In 2004 most of the stocks of the company were purchased by the Brazilian German Efromovich giving to it in 2005 a new image and therefore new colors to it's aircraft.
